Maurizio Sarri has said he is very confident that Willian will remain a Chelsea player but the future of Thibaut Courtois depends largely on the player.

Willian, 29, cut a forlorn figure at times under Conte and has been linked with Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

When asked whether the whole situation was odd, he added, "I think so".

"I want to speak to him before I answer these questions", said Sarri to reporters.

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has reportedly told the Blues' chiefs that he will not sign a new deal at Stamford Bridge and will leave on a free transfer next summer.

Speaking at a press conference, however, Sarri, who also spoke about Willian's late arrival back to Chelsea, confirmed that he had a "positive conversation" with the player. I'm very happy living in London'. "I don't know about the future".

The ongoing transfer drama surrounding Willian reached a new level last week as the Chelsea winger failed to report to pre-season training on time.

Los Blancos only value Courtois at £35million, in line with their wider stance on goalkeepers.

"I think he has got under a year left on his contract now and I can only see him moving. The match will be very hard for us", he said.

After their setback against the Gunners in Dublin, the Blues will have a chance for early silverware this season when they face Manchester City in the Community Shield on Sunday. "At this point of the season it is important the performance, we have to improve up close".
