French football legend Thierry Henry agrees to coach Bordeaux

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has reportedly landed his first managerial job after after agreeing to become new Bordeaux manager.

According to French broadcaster RMC Sport, Henry will take over at Bordeaux, who have picked up zero points from their opening two Ligue 1 fixtures.

Henry, who left Sky Sports in the summer to concentrate on his coaching career, has been working as an assistant to Belgium boss Roberto Martinez since 2016.

Gus Poyet has been suspended as manager of Bordeaux and is expected to leave his post following a reported clash with the board over the sale of forward Gaetan Laborde to Montpellier and, despite the Ligue 1 season being underway, the club are now without a manager.

The decision to suspend the Uruguayan comes after he launched a furious tirade at the Bordeaux board over their decision to sell the striker Gaetan Laborde to Ligue 1 rivals Montpellier.

Former Gunner Remi Garde, and Laurent Blanc were in the running for the position, but it now appears that Henry is favoured, with The Sportsman reporting on his former manager Arsene Wenger's comments that "he wants to do it". The Red Devils enjoyed a successful campaign in Russian Federation, where they reached the tournament semi-finals and finished in 3rd place overall.
