José Mourinho: Manchester United’s improved defence not just due to defenders

One of Manchester United's latest signings impressed their opening UEFA Champions League game, but Jose Mourinho has explained why he will be dropped for the next game.

Former manager Sir Alex Ferguson was in attendance at Old Trafford for the first time since suffering a brain haemorrhage in May and United were unable to secure a win.

United took the lead midway through the first half when Fred fired in his first goal for the club from outside the box. That's the attitude I like my teams to have every match.

Rightly or wrongly, the best-paid players at football clubs tend to start whether they are playing well or not, but as in his two previous games, Sanchez was substituted.

"You see the level of the teams - you see Liverpool's squad, Manchester City's squad, Chelsea's squad, Tottenham's squad, and Arsenal are improving". We are getting better day by day.

"I think Wolves, by the way they faced the game, they deserve [the point] because they play like I like to play, which is like the World Cup final". We have to win today because after that it will be hard to close the gap.

Mourinho Confirms Injury Boost But 4 Players To Miss Wolves Game
Pogba's penalty certainly is one to watch and it is an interesting technique. I don't see him having improved at all since the day he arrived.

Martial scored in United's 3-0 win over Young Boys in the Champions League on Wednesday, but the France global will have to settle for a place on the bench against Wolves.

United were in midweek action in the Champions League but Jose Mourinho refused to blame their exertions on a synthetic pitch for a subdued display.

It has been a odd few weeks for Manchester United and Mourinho, who, having lost two of their opening three games of the season and being tipped for the sack, have bounced back to win their last three games. I can't explain the difference of attitude because I never had a difference of attitude. "They started better were more aggressive, had more intent and I don't know why but they were more motivated." he said after their 1-1 draw.

Mourinho will face a Wolves side managed by his old Porto goalkeeper Nuno Espirito Santo and a number of Portuguese players brought to Molineux by his agent Jorge Mendes. "We were very clear with what we want to achieve and be able to compete against any team in the country".

'I want him to play totally fresh, ' said Mourinho.
