'Ridiculous': Ronaldo's agent fumes over Player of the Year snub

The captain of the Croatia national football team and Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modrić was declared the UEFA "Men's Player of the Year"!

Thursday's win caps off a stellar 12 months for the 32-year-old, who also won the Golden Ball for his performances in helping Croatia finish as runners-up at the World Cup in Russian Federation.

United were grouped alongside Juventus, Valencia and Young Boys for a somewhat tricky Champions League group stage.

Last season's Champions League runners-up Liverpool, big-spending French champions Paris St Germain and Carlo Ancelotti's Napoli were also drawn together in the pick of the groups.

But while Modric has been praised by his Madrid teammates after receiving the award, Ronaldo's sister fired a shot at the Croatian.

Pogba played for Juventus in its 2015 final loss against Barcelona and won four straight Italian titles before moving back to Manchester, here he was first recruited as a teenager for a then-world record fee in 2016.

Modric was linked with a move to Inter this summer, but he will be staying put at Madrid and has declared that the Spanish side will be looking to win the Champions League yet again this season.

"There is no doubt about the victor, he is the best in his position".

And City themselves seem to have been handed an easier Champions League draw than the Reds.

Last season's winners Real Madrid, who have won the competition for the past three years, are in Group G with Roma, CSKA Moscow and Viktoria Plzen.

According to Manchester Evening News, David said: "There was many moments throughout my career, but winning the treble for Manchester United was an incredible moment".

Los Blancos took home the honors for best goalkeeper, defender, midfielder and forward, in addition to Modric's player of the year prize.

"I expected a hard group, we have a hard group and that's what the Champions League is all about, " Liverpool coach Juergen Klopp said.

Ronaldo's agent, Jorge Mendes, also branded the decision to give the award to Modric as "shameful".
