But in an Instagram post Wednesday, Thomas said he wouldn't let the Seahawks down by continuing to hold out into the regular season.

Thomas is a three-time first-team All-Pro and was the anchor for the Seattle defence that appeared in consecutive Super Bowls, winning the first.

Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said last week that the team had not had any trade talks with the Seahawks recently, but they reportedly did pick up the phone at some point after Jones made those comments.

Thomas has publicly demanded the Seahawks either give him the top-of-the-market contract extension beyond his current deal ending after the 2018 season, or trade him. Those are all at team discretion, though, and Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported that the Seahawks "did agree to wipe away nearly all of his fines". He also would have to report by midseason to avoid his contract tolling, meaning if he did not play this season he would still be under contract to Seattle in 2019.

As the standoff in Seattle continues, Earl Thomas is not expected to play week one.

The Seahawks and Thomas are set to practice Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. PT.

"Within the past week, Dallas upped its offer to the Seahawks for Pro Bowl safety Earl Thomas to a second-round pick, per sources", Schefter tweeted Wednesday morning.

Thomas had been known back in Seattle, taking a picture with a worker at Sea-Tac airport on Monday, who posted it on Twitter.

According to a source close to the situation, it's his understanding that the Seahawks may now want a first-round pick for Thomas.
