"We have played against team that did really well in the World Cup".

Luis Enrique took charge after the humiliating exit to Russian Federation at the World Cup had left Spain doubting the possession game that won them three consecutive major tournaments between 2008 and 2012. However, it is the biggest defeat in Croatia's history, so it was a dismal day for them.

Ivan Santini and Ivan Perisic missed good early chances before Spain seized control 23 minutes in, as Saul headed the ball in off the turf after being picked out by Dani Carvajal's sublime cross.

Spain were in dreamland two minutes later as Asensio cheekily lofted a shot from 20 yards that ricocheted off the crossbar, before deflecting in off goalkeeper Lovre Kalinic for the third goal.

Rodrigo scored after slipping past the Croatian backline on a through-ball from Asensio in the 49th minute. Sergio Ramos added to the scoreline with a header from Asensio's corner after some terrible marking.

The hosts took their foot off the gas for the final quarter of an hour although Rodrigo and Isco still had chances to pile more humilation on Zlatko Dalic's side, who were handed a stark reality check on the back of their run in Russian Federation.

England 1-2 Spain: Hosts lose Nations League opener at Wembley
We were a bit disjointed in our pressing, but even when you press well against them they have some wonderful players. We are looking at a new Spain , a more direct team, just like Luis Enrique outlined when he was chosen as coach.

What does it mean? It made it two wins out of two for Luis Enrique's side in their Nations League campaign.

Luis Enrique couldn't have asked for a much better start as coach of Spain's national team. Croatia and England have no points after their respective losses to Spain.

A somewhat surprise starter given Iago Aspas' showing against England, Asensio repaid his coach with arguably the finest performance of his career. Unfortunately, the goal may go down as an own goal. "After the second goal, the match was over for us".

The centre-back was consistently excellent in Russian Federation but was given a torrid time here. But Spain weren't finished, 8 minutes later, Serjio Ramos scored the 5th from a corner kick.

Spain's next match takes place in exactly a month, when they visit Cardiff for a friendly match four days before hosting England in the Nations League.
