Officials covered the vehicle with a blue tarp before removing it from the Florida neighborhood where it was found.

The Justice Department scheduled a news conference this afternoon in Washington that was to include New York Police Commissioner James O'Neill, whose department investigated the mailings with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Law enforcement officers discovered several more packages Thursday addressed to actor Robert DeNiro and former Vice President Joe Biden.

Miller said bomb squad officials transported each of the packages recovered in the New York City area to the FBI's lab at Quantico. They brought to at least 10 the number of suspicious packages intercepted by authorities this week.

Friday morning another suspicious packages was found addressed to Democratic Senator Cory Booker.

Before the package arrived there, the Herald reports it was rerouted through the Opa-locka mail sorting facility.

Authorities believe the packages, which were intercepted before reaching their recipients, all went through the US Postal Service at some point, a source said.

None of the bombs in the other packages detonated, and no one was injured.

Since then, packages have been intercepted that were addressed to Obama, Hillary Clinton, Biden, former Central Intelligence Agency director John Brennan, actor Robert De Niro, Congresswoman Maxine Waters and former Attorney-General Eric Holder.

"I thank God no one's been hurt, and I thank the courageous and resourceful security and law enforcement people for protecting us", De Niro said of the incident in a statement obtained by EW.

"We will prosecute them, him, her, whoever it may be, to the fullest extent of the law", he said at a White House event.

Mr Clapper said he is not surprised he has been targeted with a suspicious package.

A law enforcement official familiar with the investigation said a suspicious powder from one package was tested and initially deemed not to be anthrax or a known agent. But they were still uncertain whether the devices were poorly designed or never meant to cause physical harm.

The arrest came on the same day law enforcement found three more devices - in Florida, New York and California - and capped off an increasingly tense five-day stretch in which at least one explosive device was found each day, putting officials and potential targets on high alert.

Similar packages addressed to Clinton and Obama were intercepted on their way to Clinton's NY home where she lives with former president Bill Clinton and to Washington, where Obama lives with his wife, Michelle. Kamala Harris, D-California; and major Democratic donor Tom Steyer, the latest to be sent to prominent Democrats and critics of Trump that were discovered earlier this week. Wasserman Schultz teared up as she described the bravery of her staff in dealing with the bomb addressed to Holder that was delivered to the office.

The common thread among the bomb targets was obvious: their critical words for Trump and his frequent, harsher criticism in return.

The package to Clapper was addressed to him at CNN's Midtown Manhattan address.

The New York Police Department said they were responding Friday morning to an intersection about six blocks from where CNN is located.

Jeff Zucker, the president of CNN Worldwide, said in a note to staff that all mail to CNN domestic offices was being screened at off-site facilities. The News Journal said that the Wilmington post office remained open Thursday.

A second package, addressed to James Clapper, the former director of national intelligence, at CNN's newsroom in NY, was found in a mail facility in the city.

The devices were packaged in manila envelopes and carried US postage stamps.

So far, no one has been hurt, but the bomb spree has frayed nerves and raised tensions ahead of mid-term elections in less than two weeks. Even with the sender still unknown, politicians from both parties used the moment to decry a toxic political climate and lay blame. "Mainstream Media must clean up its act, FAST!" he wrote.

"Stop blaming others. Look in the mirror".

Wray said each of the 13 IEDs consisted of about 6 inches of PVC pipe, a small clock, a battery, wiring and energetic material.
