Elsewhere the specs are similar to Huawei's main flagship, including a Kirin 980 chipset, a triple-lens camera, a 4,200mAh battery and an in-screen fingerprint scanner. The brand has introduced Huawei Mate 20 and Huawei Mate 20 Pro in an event in London. It also supports a Note 9 S Pen-like stylus Huawei is calling the M Pen.
Most interestingly - and possibly gimmicky - the wireless charging feature in the phone can work in reverse; if you place another compatible phone back-to-back with the Mate 20 Pro and charge that phone. Huawei claims the Mate 20 has the maximum brightness of 820 nits. The Mate 20 Pro has an iPhone-style cutout that allows for three-dimensional face unlock. In Europe, the phone will launch on October 26th at 899 € ($1,346 CAD). The phone has been launched in Midnight Blue and Phantom Silver colour options.
"These devices are the "mate" of consumers - accompanying and empowering them to enjoy a richer, more fulfilled life with their higher intelligence, unparalleled battery life and powerful camera performance", Richard Yu Chengdong, chief executive of Huawei's consumer business group, said in a statement after the launch of the new smartphones.
The Mate 20 also gets a triple camera setup, though it offers a 16MP (Ultra Wide Angle 17mm, f/2.2) shooter, a 12MP (Wide angle 27mm, f/1.8) unit, and an 8MP (2x Telephoto 52mm, f/2.4, OIS) lens.
Richard Branson Is Just 'Weeks' Away From Sending Virgin Galactic Into Space
Last year, Branson announced that he wanted his company in space , operating commercial flights, by the end of 2018. Sir Richard is in a race with Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos to send the first fee-paying passengers into space.
The Mate 20 has 6.53-inch display while the Pro has a 6.39-inch screen, compared to 6.5 inches on the iPhone XS Max and 6.4 inches on the Note 9. It also includes a fingerprint sensor behind the display itself, rather than underneath or tucked around the back - something Samsung has tried to innovate into its flagship smartphones, but has so far been absent from commercially available products.
While the new phones have three cameras from famed German camera maker Leica on their rear - a regular lens, a telephoto lens and a wide-angle lens - there are slight differences between the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro. The Mate 20 comes with a 16-megapixel primary lens coupled with the 12-megapixel secondary sensor and an 8-megapixel third sensor. The Mate 20 Pro comes with wireless charging support as well with Huawei 15W Wireless Fast Charge. Moreover, you can actually use the phone as a wireless charger, so it can charge other Qi-enabled devices. That means no support for CDMA carriers (Verizon, Sprint, etc.). In terms of connectivity, the handset offers 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/ A-GPS, and a USB Type-C port.
The MateBook D is a bit bigger than the MateBook X Pro, featuring a 14-inch display with an 81% screen-to-body ratio with 5.2mm bezel which is quite narrow for a laptop.
