The Rockies went on to defeat the Nationals 12-0.

The loser will play either the Cubs or Brewers in the NL Wild Card Game, who, guess what, will also be playing a Game 163 Monday for the NL Central title. The Colorado Rockies thumped the Washington Nationals, setting the stage for the NL West showdown. Bucky Dent's pop-fly homer finished off the Red Sox in 1978.

The other four other divisions were wrapped up long before Sunday's final day of the regular season, with the Red Sox (East), Indians (Central) and Astros (West) claiming American League division titles and the Braves winning the National League East.

Los Angeles led 14-0 at San Francisco in the eighth inning.

A one-game playoff in 1980 was no better for the Dodgers, who were beaten 7-1 by Houston for the NL West championship. League championship series open October 12 in the National League and October 13 in the American League.

Update: The Nationals are trying to win today's game, even if Max Scherzer isn't on the mound. Moments later, the Cubs matched Milwaukee by beating the St. Louis Cardinals 10-5 at a soggy Wrigley Field.

At Wrigley, lefty Jose Quintana is set to start for the Cubs. Milwaukee won its seventh in a row, trouncing Detroit 11-0.

The tiebreakers are considered game No. 163 of the regular season, meaning Yelich's stats - and those of Arenado and Baez - from Monday's game will count in the totals.
