The broadcast deal is the richest contract signed by an athlete since New York Yankees outfielder Giancarlo Stanton.

Now, he's revisiting beefs from his past, specifically the likes of Canelo Alvarez and Alvarez's promoter, Oscar De La Hoya.

Alvarez is now the unified middleweight champion of boxing, coming off a majority decision win over Gennady Golovkin last month.

The historic deal marks a major change in the boxing landscape, where its biggest stars traditionally fought on pay-per-view. He will meet secondary world champ Rocky Fielding on December 15 at Madison Square Garden in NY.

Messi will likely be Alvarez's biggest competition for the title of world's highest-paid athlete.

Canelo Alvarez, fresh off his razor-thin split decision "victory" over Gennady Golovkin, which, in this writer's opinion, was an absolute shambles of a result, has signed the highest-earning sports contract of all time.

It will offer fans a monthly subscription service to watch the fights rather than having to pay hefty pay-per-view fees.

Azhar Ali's Comical Run Out Against Australia Leaves Twitter in Splits
Fakhar Zaman (L) and Azhar Ali run between the wickets during day two of the second Test in Abu Dhabi on October 17, 2018. The Australian non-striker had watched the ball touch the bowler's hand as it passed him by, failing to put his bat down.

Now fans can pay significantly less - $9.99 subscription cost per month in the USA - to see his fights on DAZN (pronounced Da-Zone).

"This is easily one of the best days in the growing history of Golden Boy Promotions", said De La Hoya, speaking to ESPN. DAZN is not available in the United Kingdom, and Alvarez's fights are set to be sold to British broadcasters to offer on pay-per-view.

Alvarez and Britain's Fielding will hold a news conference in NY on Wednesday to promote their fight at Madison Square Garden.

Alvarez said he has confidence DAZN will succeed. "There are many people who I could have great fights with, but I just want the best fights".

The DAZN-Golden Boy deal includes a large production element, which places Oscar De La Hoya as Executive Producer of the 12 live fight nights annually. "I can't say what's going on on Khabib's end, but on my end we can make it happen".

Alvarez's fights have always been shown on HBO thanks to the premium cable network's agreement with Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions.
