Lee said she never told Winfrey about her half-sister "because I thought it was a bad thing for me to do".

Winfrey previously released a statement about her mother on Twitter, along with a picture of the two. No other details were provided. Vernita gave birth to the future TV legend in MS when she was just 14. When the future mogul turned 6, she moved to Milwaukee to live with Vernita who was a virtual stranger to her at that point.

On the same day that her mother passed away, Winfrey shared an Instagram video of her preparing for her Thanksgiving festivities. She also had two other children - son Jeffrey Lee, who died in 1989 and daughter Patricia Lee Lloyd, who died in 2003.

Lee is also survived by another daughter, Patricia Amanda, and four grandchildren.

'Memorial donations in Vernita's name may be made to Feeding America (feedingamerica.org)'. "I don't really even know my mother", Oprah said of the childhood move, Newsweek reported.

The Ministry of External Affairs released a statement on Friday condemning Pakistan's move to deny consular access to the Sikh pilgrims.

When asked the moment she felt the most pride for Winfrey's achievements, she cited the star's multi-Oscar nominated film The Colour Purple.

Due to a number of reasons, Vernita wasn't able to raise Oprah for the first six years of her life.

"I walked into that space feeling completely alone and abandoned". "'What is a mother?' 'What are you supposed to feel about your mother?'" she once asked. Oprah has not broken her silence about her mother's death.

She passed away in her home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. "I was asking the question. what is a mother?"

While Oprah didn't have a great relationship with her mother, she encouraged her fans to love their families during her 2013 LifeClass.
