Liverpool can’t be judged just on trophies - Klopp responds to Mourinho

Tuesday's nailbiting UCL success against Napoli is a case in point - it would've been understandable if the Reds had attacked with abandon in a game they needed to win at Anfield, but they payed in a much more circumspect manner, and got the 1-0 win they required to reach the last 16. So I think I have to respect the ones that did it, and I have to respect the ambition of the ones that didn't.

Alisson believes Liverpool must accept nothing less than victory against Manchester United to keep their Premier League title tilt on track.

Here, AFP Sports looks at how United have been left behind by Liverpool on and off the pitch in recent months.

The team's performances under Mourinho this season have been disastrous, and they are playing like a side without any real direction.

"The two clubs I played for previously, Internacional and Roma, had two major derbies so I'm used to derbies and, worldwide, the Liverpool-United rivalry is well known", said the No.13.

The Reds host United at Anfield on Sunday, where Klopp's side are 16 points ahead of sixth placed Red Devils. Everybody can say that they want to win.

"But it should all be about Liverpool and I can see them winning well". The former Borussia Dortmund boss agrees with Sir Alex Ferguson that Liverpool v Manchester United is the English El Clasico.

Jose Mourinho has won 50 per cent of his PL away matches at Anfield, with four out of eight.

Instead, he says it is his job to find a solution. The Dutchman has brought an authority and a sense of calm at the back - that powers the engine in midfield and wheels up front keeping this machine ticking off one win after another.

Injuries are plenty for Mourinho to worry about, and he was quite grim during his pre-match press conference. I don't think we always got the right result, previous year they had a very good start in the home game against us but then we more or less took over and couldn't get the game back.

Mata has always been able to have good scoring runs in a season - and it does appear like he could be on one again.

Liverpool are overwhelming favourites for valid reasons - which is why I am going for an underserved and ugly draw for Manchester United.

Liverpool fans were less impressed...

'They are there for the taking - these United players nearly need to stop listening to their manager now.
