The Accidental Prime Minister trailer: Anupam Kher as Manmohan Singh impresses viewers

The film is based on a book by former prime minister Manmohan Singh's media advisor Sanjaya Baru -'The Accidental Prime Minister' -which was published in 2014.

Speaking to mediapersons over the controversy surrounding the film, Kamal Nath said, "I do not have any intent to impose a ban or any prohibition on any movie".

Union I&B Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore defended his party's decision to lend its official support to the film. So those who are protesting should suggest my name for the Oscars, for being so close to Dr Manmohan Singh.

Kher's comment comes after the Maharashtra Youth Congress raised objections to the film and said that if the film is released without prior screening for their office bearers, they will resort to "other options" to stop the screening of the film.

Anupam Kher featured in two of the most dramatic and most amusing movies of 2018, Aiyaary and Baa Baa Black Sheep, respectively.

While reacting on Maharashtra Youth Congress objecting to film The Accidental Prime Minister, Anupam Kher said, "Haal hi main Rahul Gandhi ji ka tweet padha tha, jisme freedom of expression pe unhone bola tha, toh I think unko daatna chahiye un logon ko ki aap ghalat baat kar rahe ho". Suzanne has earlier featured in popular television serial Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat.

Journalist Nikhil Wagle sought to remind that the director of The Accidental Prime Minister Vijay Ratnakar Gutte and his father Ratnakar were arrested for GST fraud. While posting the trailer of The Accidental Prime Minister, the official handle of BJP wrote, "Riveting tale of how a family held the country to ransom for 10 long years".

During the trailer launch, when Anupam Kher was asked if the BJP, which lost three state elections recently to the Congress, could use the movie to its advantage in the campaign for the 2019 national election, he said, "If I would have been in politics I would have definitely told them to do so".
