Darnold FaceTimed with Gase on Monday night and felt he was a good fit to replace Todd Bowles, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini.

The Jets have finally picked their new head honcho. "I think it tells you where they're at". He's a good dude. I think he's going to be a fantastic player.

The Dolphins dismissed Gase after three seasons.

Manning actually called Jets CEO Christopher Johnson to back Gase as well. Gase worked with Manning from 2012 through 2014-first as the Broncos' quarterbacks coach, and then as offensive coordinator.

The second factor that pushed things in Gase's favor with the Jets' front office was his willingness to let others help him to build his staff.

Romo said he's been impressed by Darnold. But the team struggled the following year, going 6-10 with quarterback Ryan Tannehill sidelined all season following knee surgery. He'll just bring a certain attitude to this team that we need.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Cotswold country weekender has been revealed
The pregnant royal, 37, has been hounded by rumours that she is is nicknamed "Duchess Difficult" and has even made staff cry. Meghan, who Wednesday Prince Harry in May, will now assume her role as the royal patron of several charitable organisations.

Williams spent last season with the Cleveland Browns as defensive coordinator and interim head coach.

Instead, the Jets opted for Gase, who has a solid reputation for working with quarterbacks.

So, the Jets have hired a head coach they believe to be a quarterback whisperer.

Darnold realizes that part of Gase's resume, and he doesn't see why he can't be added to it as well. Gase's first National Football League job came in 2003 under Steve Mariucci in Detroit, where he worked his way up to quarterbacks coach in five years with the Lions. "I think we can take this a long way. There's a lot of points that are going to be scored". The Jets had talked to several candidates, most notably former Packers head coach Mike McCarthy, but decided Gase was their man on Wednesday.

In his rookie year, Darnold threw for 2,865 yards, 17 touchdowns and 15 interceptions in 13 games.
