Samsung and Huawei will be introducing their first generation foldable smartphones at their respective events later this month.

While it looks cool, the shape of the hinge may augur that it won't fold flat.

Huawei had already planned to unveil their Foldable smartphone in 2019 as announced in October. Considering the fact that we are presumably dealing with a contemporary Android home screen, this might mean that Samsung's actual foldable smartphone is now a close-to-market device. "Xiaomi has teased an interesting prototype and upstart Royole has managed to steal the limelight with its FlexPai foldable tablet/smartphone albeit little more than a clunky prototype still a long way from being a mass-market consumer device". 5G mobile phones are another trend we will get to see majorly this year. The larger screen on the inside is accessed by folding it out from the middle, while there is also a secondary screen on the outside. Huawei's First Foldable Phone The Chinese brand took to Twitter to announce its upcoming event at this year's Mobile World Congress, happening at Barcelona, Spain, in February 24. "Samsung's intentions to deliver flexible displays are clearly building on its Infinity Flex Display showcased in October".

2019 is expected to be the year where foldable phones and 5G will be making their debut.

Other features expected for the USA version of the Samsung Galaxy S10 including new Infinity-O displays with a punch hole cutout for the selfie camera (s) and three rear cameras for the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+.

While the patent application only provides simplified sketches of the smartphone, Dutch site LetsGoDigital was kind enough to create realistic, 3D renders of the device featuring some games in action, and it looks snazzy. What's odd is when the phone is unfolded, the external display was still running in the video.

Huawei has scheduled a press conference on Sunday 24 February at 14:00 CET.

The invite didn't disclose any information about the upcoming smartphone.
