Christie's Memoir: Heavy on Kushner Criticism, Light on Gubernatorial Record

They discussed how Christie describes being closer to Trump than anyone else not in the Trump family.

Christie added that after Trump's attack he counterpunched "harder than I had ever gone after him" and said that eventually the candidate called him to apologize.

He claims Kushner was still "seething" from events that took place more than a decade prior - when Christie, as a US attorney, prosecuted Kushner's father, Charles, for tax evasion, witness tampering and illegal campaign contributions, sending the elder Kushner to prison for 14 months.

"I believe in the old adage, garbage in, garbage out", Christie said on CNN's "Cuomo Prime Time" on Wednesday evening. But as Colbert covered last week, that was put on hold during the government shutdown.

"He didn't have a plan", said Christie. However, Christie stood by his decision to show his continued support for Trump.

McCain took the opportunity to bring up Christie once stating that Trump was "exactly what the country needed".

But soon after Trump was elected, Christie joined his team and became a leader during the transition-a role that many expected to turn into an administration position. "In politics, shots are fired every day, and the people who fire a shot at you today are people that you have to work with tomorrow".

Chris Christie appeared on the "Late Show with Stephen Colbert" Tuesday night to promote his new book, "Let Me Finish".

"So great to watch and listen to all these people who write books and talk about my presidential campaign and so many others things related to winning, and how I should be doing 'IT.'" he said, referring to his presidency. If you're convicting murderers, it's one thing.

"Once you've got this in your blood, it's hard to get rid of", Christie said.
