"America's corn farmers are disappointed in you", the American Corn Growers Association (ACGA) said in a tweet directed at Bud Light. We would love to discuss with you the many benefits of corn!

The best-selling beer in the US ran a medieval-themed Super Bowl ad on Sunday night that mocked rivals Miller Lite and Coors Light for using the sweetener.

Representatives for Bud Light's parent company, Anheuser-Busch, did not respond Monday to a request for comment. The statement says it's up to consumers "to decide what beer is right for them".

The backlash on social media was swift. Corn syrup is an affordable alternative to sugar that has been associated with obesity, diabetes and other ailments.

Elsewhere, other beer manufacturers had a surprisingly heated response to the ad as well. Later on, the Miller Lite account sarcastically thanked Bud Light for the free advertising.

The wild ad, which featured dozens of current stars and Hall of Fame players battling over a football at a fancy dinner party, has been praised for being the best Super Bowl commercial of the night. "You forgot two things though. The show's creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss also weighed in on the details, such as making sure one onlooker in the ad responded to the horror in a way that mimicked the reaction of Ellaria Sands, Oberyn's lover, in the episode".

Adam Collins, vice president of communications and community affairs for Chicago-based MillerCoors, chalked the Bud Light shot up to MillerCoors threatening Bud Light's market share.

Corn syrup is a sweetener used in place of sugar in a wide range of processed foods and beverages, but there is a difference between regular corn syrup and high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), which is also widely used in processed foods and beverages. They doth protest that Bud Light doesn't contain corn syrup.

"When was the last time ABI used their Super Bowl ad to attack a competing brand?" There's no public drinking, so. you're not going to be seeing Bud Light cans going up and down the parade route.

"Always intrigued at what commercials are going to come out, and when they progressed to we do not use corn syrup in our beer".
