Barr was New York's top option at the position, but there are still plenty of talented edge rushers still available for the taking.

The Vikings began talks about an extension for Barr last season, before opting to put discussions on hold for the 2018 season.

On Monday, ESPN's Adam Schefter said the Jets are in line to sign Barr to a contract. Barr will receive $33 million in guarantees.

Anthony Barr has chose to stay in Minnesota.

Barr, 26, was the first draft pick of coach Mike Zimmer's tenure, taken ninth overall in 2014.

Giants Trade Odell Beckham Jr
And out of nowhere, the Browns somehow got Odell Beckham Jr . from the New York Giants for what looks like a steal on paper. Before today, they were a solid young team who were on the rise. "Browns going playoffs this year I can feel it".

Barr has made four straight Pro Bowl appearances after missing out on the honor during his rookie campaign. He got both from the Browns.

Barr's contract year was filled with ups and downs as he played in 13 games and tallied a career-low with 55 tackles (39 solo).

So far, it looks like defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson will indeed be departing the team. We don't have a ton to go on in terms of how one's efficiency as an off-the-ball linebacker translates into efficiency as an edge in a 4-3 or 3-4 defense, so this will be a considerable leap of faith for the Jets, essentially asking him to switch positions in his sixth National Football League season.

The Jets were going to be doing some projecting with Barr's role anyway, because he spent five seasons in Minnesota mostly not rushing the passer. The importance of re-signing Barr for Minnesota can't go underemphasized.

Free agency opens Wednesday.
