Kohli, Mandhana win top prizes at Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack honours

Kohli, 30, has been named as the Leading Cricketer in the World for the third time in a row in the latest edition of the respected Wisden Cricketers' Almanack.

Sam Curran's meteoric rise has continued after the 20-year-old all-rounder was named among Wisden's five Cricketers of the Year, the youngest Englishman to do so in a century.

During 2018, India captain Kohli scored five Test hundreds and amassed an impressive 1,322 runs - 299 more than any other player.

Srimathie Mandana of the Indian cricket team has been selected as the best female cricketer of the year for 2018 and Rasheed Khan of the Afghanistan team has been named as the best twenty-twenty cricketer.

Kohli was also named the leading cricketer in the world, while compatriot Smriti Mandhana was the world's leading women's cricketer.

"But the analogy was imperfect: where Brexit had plenty of advocates, it was hard to find anyone beyond a small group within the ECB's offices who believed that cricket, its fixture list already unfathomable, needed a fourth format". His teammate, Sam Curran also had a fantastic year finishing with 272 runs and 11 wickets in his debut Test series versus India.

Kohli, however, was the sport's dominant figure in 2018, making 2735 global runs at 68.37 across all formats, more than 700 more than his nearest challenger, England's Joe Root.

Opener Beaumont hit the fastest T20 century by an England women's player in June when she reached three figures from just 47 balls.

Kohli had a prolific 2018, dominating all the way.

"In making hundreds in South Africa, England and Australia, as well as at home, he showed a mastery of all conditions and bowling attacks", Wisden said.
