Brazilian soccer great Pele was hospitalized in Paris with a strong fever but his condition is not life-threatening and he should be released "within a couple of days", one of his long-time friends said on Wednesday.

It is reported that he has been taken to hospital as a "precautionary measure".

Pele will remain in hospital as he is being monitored by doctors in Paris.

Their meeting was initially planned for last November, but the 78-year-old's poor health at the time meant the event had to be put back.

Pele has been hospitalised after attending an event in Paris with Kylian Mbappe.

The three-time World Cup victor was a special guest on Tuesday at an event organised by a Swiss watchmaker in a Parisian hotel, where he met Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe.

Or, we're going to close large sections of the border, maybe not all of it. The president said he needs to see action by both Mexico and Congress.

Mbappe was one of the stars of last year's tournament in Russian Federation and became the youngest player to score two goals in a World Cup game since Pele in 1958.

Pele said Mbappe and his French teammates reminded him of Brazil's great national teams from the 1960's.

Mbappe and Pele had been scheduled to meet late a year ago but had to postpone, again because of Pele's health, French media said. To 1,000 it's okay, " the three-times World Cup victor said, "because I have one thousand and twenty-five! "He needs to continue in the same way because he will become the best in the world".

Pele, who spent his career with Santos before a two-year spell at New York Cosmos in the mid-70s, wished Mbappe luck.

Pele claims he scored 1,025 goals during his playing career.
