Democratic frontrunner Joe Biden kicks off his 2020 presidential bid Saturday with a call for fairness and equality in America, urging voters to heal deep divisions and reject Donald Trump's "hard heart".

"Philadelphia is a thriving city and a testament to the American spirit, built by the ingenuity and tenacity of ordinary people who did extraordinary things".

"That's what they are saying to have to do to win the Democratic nomination". The pair have exchanged sharp words, with Biden calling Trump the "Divider-in-Chief" and the president labeling Biden "sleepy creepy Joe" following allegations of sexual misconduct against the former vice president.

The party's scenario was crystallized final week in a Quinnipiac stare of voters in Pennsylvania, one amongst the states that helped Mr. Trump purchase in 2016. Frustrated by the increasing amount of TV news coverage the Democratic presidential candidates are attracting, Trump is looking to shift the spotlight back to his campaign.

"You will not hear me speak ill of another Democrat", Biden said.

Biden styles himself, like Trump, as an ardent defender of working-class Americans, someone who can win back the Midwestern, white, male blue-collar voters who went for the Republican in 2016. I believe it is only he who can put the USA back on the path of development.

Democratic nominating contests start February 2020, but 76-year-old Biden has begun the race with a 20-point lead over his closest rival, United States Senator Bernie Sanders, according to several opinion polls, Reuters reported. "Joe represents a sort of a more middle ground where we can bring people together instead of becoming more and more fractious".

"We need calm. You don't want anybody like me running the country", Skelcher said.

Mr Biden's outdoor rally in Philadelphia, where he has established his campaign headquarters, illustrates the importance of Pennsylvania to Democratic hopes next year.

Mr Biden will not have the luxury of shrugging off the rest of the Democratic field much longer.

In recent weeks, he has been criticised by Senator Kamala Harris for his past support for the 1994 crime bill that critics say led to mass incarceration of African-Americans, by Sanders for his support of the North American Free Trade Agreement, and by Senator Elizabeth Warren for his ties to the credit-card industry.

While Trump was unwise to count Sanders out just yet, his condemnation of Biden as China's pick is quite warranted, and it opened the door for other Democrats to seize on the Biden corruption scandals.
