In response, Control has released the following statement, ensuring its users that Nest Thermostat and Nest Protect will still be supported going forward. The company also unveiled the previously leaked Nest Hub Max, a bigger smart display than the Google Home Hub which it launched a year ago.

"The 10" Nest Hub Max is larger than the existing 7" Nest Hub and comes with an HD touchscreen over the older device's LCD display - as well as a camera. But with the Nest Hub Max, Google has markedly pivoted on its messaging by equipping the device with a camera. Here's what it's like.

With an assistant that is always listening and a smart display that can recognize who is in the room, we understand if you're a bit skeptical with Google's promise of digital privacy. Imaging is handled by the same 12.2 MP rear sensor as the flagship Pixel 3 phones.

The Nest Hub Max can recognise faces and proactively show personalised information such as video messages, calendar appointments and commutes.

Google has finally caved, admitting that Nest has a strong brand that it should probably do something about fully utilizing.

That brings about the launch of Google's latest piece of hardware - the Google Nest Hub Max - but it also means there will be some rebranding taking place. Instead of being made to sit on your lap, the Nest Hub Max is made to sit on your countertop. If you buy the Google Nest Hub before the end of 2018 you'll also get a free six-month subscription to YouTube Music Premium - tap on this to begin your free trial.

They're also updating the virtual Assistant powering its devices, with the aim to make life's little tasks easier by learning more about you. If you are like me and you have your Home turned up to wall-shaking volumes, then you understand the pain of attempting to shout loudly enough to find the Assistant's interest.

As with Voice Match, which recognizes different users by their voice commands, there's a new Face Match system. This is called Project Mainline and will work in the same way your Google apps update in the background. On the contrary, it will include a Nest Camera that will give users the same functionalities located in Nest Cameras and Hello Doorbell.
