Carlos Ruiz Gets NO Respect from Fans in All-Star Voting!

admin Last updated on: February 17, 2024

Being a legitimate MVP candidate isn’t enough to get Carlos Ruiz any closer to appearing in his first All-Star Game.

Despite leading all Major League catchers in hitting (a National League-leading .368), OPS (1.016), and slugging (.600), and being tied with the Cardinals’ Yadier Molina for the second most RBI among Major League catchers with 32, Chooch currently ranks just fourth among NL catchers in All-Star voting with 562,021 votes.

What kind of Bull Shit is this! When you have a game that determines the possible outcome of a World Series, then the fans should have no say in this! Let the players vote and see who they choose? I know if I am a pitcher I would love to have the man who caught not only a world series, but Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Cole Hammels, Brad Lidge (When he was good) and dont forget Roy Oswalt. Give him a chance and Vote for Chooch!

Molina leads all NL catchers with 1,100,048 votes, followed by the Giants’ Buster Posey (1,072,464 votes), and Brian McCann of the Braves (707,508 votes). Jonathan Lucroy of the Brewers ranks just behind Ruiz in fifth place with 457,590 votes.

Aside from Ruiz, no other Phillies player cracked the top five in voting at any position. Hunter Pence ranks 11th among NL outfielders (446,460 votes), and Shane Victorino ranks 15th (373,034).

The current NL vote leaders are: Joey Votto (1B); Dan Uggla (2B); David Wright (3B); Troy Tulowitzki (SS); Yadier Molina (C); Matt Kemp (OF); Carlos Beltran (OF); Ryan Braun (OF).

Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton is the top overall vote-getter with 2,587,991 votes.

Fans can submit up to 25 ballots per email address with the All-Star Game Online Ballot, through June 28 via MLB.com and all 30 team sites. Once that voting closes (at 11:59 p.m. ET), the All-Star Game MLB.com Final Vote follows from July 1-5, where fans can select one additional player from a field of candidates to make each league’s team.

The 2012 All-Star Game rosters will be unveiled July 1 on the 2012 MLB All-Star Game Selection Show on TBS, time TBD.

The 83rd annual Major League Baseball All-Star Game will be played July 10 in Kansas City.
