Penn State Beats Vermont in College Hockey Faceoff

On Saturday January 19 from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, The Penn State Nittany Lions Men’s Ice Hockey team took on the Vermont Catamounts in the 1st Annual Philadelphia College Hockey Faceoff. This was the first ever NCAA hockey game played at the Wells Fargo Center. The Game was broadcast on the Comcast Network with Flyers announcers Jim Jackson and Steve Coates calling the action. The crowd was a pro Penn State crowd and the weird part wa that Penn State was the Road team and Vermont was the home team. The Game began when Vermont won the opening face off. The first goal of game went to Penn State’s Taylor Holstorm off of his own rebound. The first penalty of the game went Penn State’s way off of Kenny Brooks, who received two Minutes for hooking. Penn State would strike again in the first period on a goal by David Glen. Penn State would take a two goal lead into the second period.
Penn State started the second period with the puck,and after a reviewed goal, Penn State took a 3-0 lead. Late in the 2nd Period, Vermont finally scored a goal of their own by Robert Poolesello off of a Power Play. Nike Luukko would pick up the assist, and the score was 3-1 Penn State with 7:40 left in the 2nd. At the end of 2nd period, Penn State led Vermont 3-1. The 3rd Period begins, and despite Vermont giving it all they had, Penn State would pick up a fourth goal from Penn State’s Casey Bailey. Penn State would end up winning 4-2 to win the 1st Annual Philadelphia College Hockey Face off. There was 19,529 in attendance at the Wells Fargo Center for this game
