Penn State Wins 1st Game at Pegula Ice Arena

(UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.) On Friday Night October 11 from the new Pegula Ice Arena on the Campus of Penn State University, A new Era of Penn State Hockey began as Penn State played the Army Black Nights in the 1st game at the new Pegula Ice Arena This season also marked the brand new Big Ten hockey conference. Penn State won the opening faceoff and 3 minutes into the game, Penn State scores the 1st goal at Pegula Ice Arena when Nate Jensen’s slap shot broke through a screen and slipped past Army goaltender Rob Tadazak for a early 1-0 lead. Penn State took a 1-0 lead into the 1st intermission, both Penn State & Army played to a scoreless 2nd period. the 3rd period is where most of the action happens as Penn State would score a shorthanded goal by Curtis Loik to make it 2-0 Penn State, at 12:27 of 3rd period, Penn State Strikes again on goal by David Goodwin to make it 3-0, Army would finally get on the board when Marc Lalor scores on a five-on-three power play which cuts the Penn State lead to 3-1. Penn State would add an empty net goal by Eric Scheid to ice the game as Penn State win 4-1 in front of a standing-room only crowd of 6,370. This game had a lot of Penalties, Army went 1-for-10 on power play, while Penn State was 0-for-3 with the man advantage. Penn State would go on to out shot the Black Knights 35-26. Penn State goalie Matthew Skoff finished with 25 saves, Army Rob Tadazak stopped 31 shots
Penn State will return to action next weekend when it travels to Colorado Springs, Colo., for a two-game series at Air Force on Oct. 18-19.
