#11 Villanova runs over Providence 91-61

Villanova PA- On Sunday January 5 from the Pavilion on the Campus of Villanova University, it was the Conference home opener as #11 Villanova as they hosted Providence. Villanova came into game with a record of 12-1 (1-0 in conference) and  off a overtime win over Butler on New Years Eve, while Providence had a record of 10-4 (0-1 in Conference play) and was coming off a double overtime loss to Seton Hall on New Years Eve. The Game was broadcasted on FOX Sports 1 with Dick Stockton, Tarik Turner calling the action & locally on CBS Sports Radio 610 with Ryan Fannon & Whitey Risby calling the action.

Villanova got off to the fast start right from the opening tip when JayVaughn Pinkston took the opening tip & dunked it for 2-0 lead, Providence first points did not come until 3 minutes into game from a 3 pointer by Bryce Cotton. Villanova Josh Hart would hit a 3 pointer and was fouled at the same time but he would miss the foul shot.  the 3 pointers were falling in the 1st half for Villanova by making 7 of them. Villanova would take a 50-26 lead into the half

The same thing would continue in the 2nd half as Villanova would increase its lead to 30 points, Providence would attempt to cut the lead but they had a hard time in doing it, Villanova would roll to a 91-61 victory to go 2-0 in the Big East while Providence would fall to 0-2 in Big East.  Villanova would go on to make 14 three pointers which they did against Iowa on November 30. Villanova now looks to a matchup against Seton Hall on Wednesday while Providence looks to rebound against Georgetown on Wednesday.

Leading scorer for Villanova was JayVaughn Pinkston with 19 points, 7 rebounds, 3-5 from foul line, Darrun Hilliard had 15 points 3-6 from three point range

Providence leading scorer was Bryce Cotton with 25 points, 6 rebounds, 3-3 from three point rage & 8-10 from foul line, LaDontae Henton had 17 points, 5 rebounds, 8-9 from foul line.
