Eagles Hold Off Surging Skins

The 400+ day win-less drought for the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field is gone.  It’s a good thing the Eagles got over winning at home, because they have two games at the Linc following the bye, and after improving to 6-5, each future win will help them stay atop the NFC East as they push forward to week 17 against the Cowboys in Dallas.

Against the Redskins today, LeSean McCoy scored his first 2 rushing touchdowns since week 5 and became the first back in the NFL to exceed 1000 yards rushing.  Nick Foles threw for 298 yards and kept the score sheet clean again with 0 interceptions. Most importantly, the Eagles improving defense held RG3 to 16 points making it four times in five contests the Eagle D held their opponent to under 20.

The Eagles got their two TDs in the first half via the running game.  However both scores were set up with big plays out of the passing game.  A wheel route from Nick Foles to LeSean McCoy for 49 yards set up the first score- a 5 yard scamper by Nick Foles.  (That was not Foles only run today- he actually ran 9 times for 47 yards.)  The second score was set up by a TE screen to Brent Celek  which brought the Eagles inside the 5 yard line again after a 42 yard gain.  The Eagles added a field goal and and a long TD drive early in the third quarter to extend their lead to 24.

After the Eagles rolled out to their four score lead, the defense finally started to give in the 4th quarter. After 2 TD drives and 2 successful 2 pt conversions, the score was down to 24-16.  On the games final drive, RG3 dropped back with 30 seconds left in the game and inexplicably threw one up for grabs in the end zone as he fell backwards. RG3′s heave was picked off by Brandon Boykin for his team-leading fourth interception on the season.  That interception iced the game for the Birds and gave them their first winning record all season at 6-5 and making the Eagles a football betting choice.
