Philadelphia PA: The Flyers opened a four-game homestand with a win after losing four of their last five road games. Couturier,Read,Simmonds,and Voracek all had a goal that lead to the Flyers to a 4-1 win against the Devils. Emery made 17 saves for the Flyers. Havlat was the lone goal scorer for the Devils and goale Cory Schneider would make 32 saves.
The Flyers opened the scoring on Couturier’s shorthanded at 6:12 of the first assisted by Read. It was also the Flyers first shorthanded goal of the year and Couturier’s 6th of the season. Read would score the 2nd goal of the game assisted Couturier to extend the Flyers’ lead to 2-0 at 13:37 of the first. This was Read’s 3rd goal of the season and his first in 12 games.
The Devils got within 2-1 on Havlat’s power-play goal at 13:02 of the second period. New Jersey would find a way to get the puck into the Philadelphia zone finding Scott Gomez who would pass it to Havlat who would than shoot it over Emery’s shoulder. Flyers were able to preserve their lead in the third period by outshooting the Devils 14-7. They were able breathe when Simmonds’ scored his 12th and the 3rd goal of the game with 4:16 remaining.Voracek would seal the Flyers victory by scoring an empty-net goal with 2:30 remaining. The Flyers ares 10-13-5, 6th in Metropolitan Division. Flyers next game is Saturday at 1PM against Carolina Hurricanes.
