Flyers Thrash the Panthers 7-1

After picking up their first win of the season against the Rangers a few days ago, the Flyers traveled to Florida to take on the Panthers.  Philadelphia came out swinging and would eventually embarrass their opponents, taking out Florida 7-1.  Matt Read would be the hero of the night, picking up a well earned hat trick to lead his team to their second win of the season, picking up first star honors in the process.

Read spread his hat trick out through all three periods of the game.  The first would come early on in the first half after an assist from team captain Claude Giroux.  In the second, Read would score with just over a minute and a half to play, picking up a nice one time pass from Braydon Coburn.  Coburn would also pick up another assist, helping to setup rookie Tye Mcginn.  Finally, less than a minute into the third period, Matt Read would strike again to get his hat trick with the assist going to the other Brayden on the team, Brayden Schenn.

Wayne Simmonds was also a force on the night for the flyboys.  Not only did Simmonds pick up the first goal of the night for Philly, but he was a beast on the defensive side of the game as well.  Danny Briere would also make his first appearence of the 2013 campaign after sitting out the first five games with a wrist injury.

The Flyers will stay in Florida as they head to Tampa Bay for their first game of the season against the Lightning.  Puck drop is set for 6:00 p.m. ET.  Comcast SportsNet has your television coverage on the night.  Stay tuned to Philly Sports Live for all of your Flyers hockey news.
