Former Philadelphia Union captain Carlos Valdes leads Colombia on Friday in a comfortable 5-0 beating of Bolivia in South American World Cup qualifying at the Roberto Melendez in Colombia. Valdes former Union captain is currently on loan with Santa Fe (Col) after spending two seasons with the Philadelphia Union.
Colombia opened the scoring 20 minutes into the match when Macnelly Torres was on the end of a cross from Guillermo Cuadrado and blasted a right- footed shot into the bottom right corner of the goal.
Colombia held on the one-goal lead at the half and put the game away in the second half.
Five minutes into the second half , defender Carlos Valdes made it 2-0 to the home side. Valdes scored many goals for Philadelphia by being in the right place at the right time.
Teofilo Gutierrez in 62nd minute as he collected a through ball from Torress and made it 3-0. Colombia wasn’t finished scoring as they added goals from Radamel Falcao and Pablo Armero. Colombia now sits in second place in Conmebol standings.
