At Least We’re Not The Browns

Last night’s game vs Andy Reid’s Kansas City Chiefs was brutal for Birds fans.  A nice moment came before the game when the PA announcer thanked Andy Reid for his 14 years of being a head coach for Philadelphia.  After that, Eagles fans had very little to cheer about.

A pair of early turnovers gave Kansas City a ten point lead before the five minutes had even elapsed, and Reid’s Cheifs never looked back.  Instead, the Chiefs defense pinned their ears back  and held one of the most explosive offenses in football below 20 points for the first time this season. Actually, the Eagles v Chiefs was the first time the Eagles did not score 30 points.

The Kansas City pass defense looked good- their pass rush looked even better. Mike Vick was sacked six times vs the Chiefs.  Andy Reid’s thoughts after the game: ”…it was different.  I was on the opposite side of the field than I normally am at. But I can’t tell you that I was caught up in that part of it. The defense, man — the DBs, the linebackers giving great coverage, the big guys in the middle pushing the pocket,” he said. “When they’re doing that, it’s real easy for me to do my job.”

Remember Eagles fans – this is a young team in a series of new systems.  Growing pains in new offenses were bound to happen, and  it was extremely unlikely for the Birds offense to score 30 points week in and week out.  So let’s find a Silver Lining to this.

No one big is hurt yet.  We do have one win under our belts against a division foe. We did not trade away our best player for a draft pick (Trent Richardson) to a team in our own conference (the Colts).  Nor did we give up on our season after just two losses (like the Browns).  And remember, the future has already looked promising (very much unlike the Browns).

It’s time to enjoy football for the possibility of a win and not the probability of one.  News flash:  The Birds probably won’t make the playoffs -it’s a rebuilding season in Philadelphia.  If that bums you out- remember- at least we aren’t Browns fans.
