After barely seeing the pitch since joining the Union mid-season in 2012, veteran CB Bakary Soumare has requested to be traded. Not surprisingly, the Union have agreed to honor his request.
Soumare had a strong pre-season this past Winter after recovering from not one, but two knee surgeries. On the tail end of the 2012 season, “Baky” as many know him, made only one regular season start, only to realize that he had not fully recovered from his knee injuries. However, the off-season proved helpful for the 27 year old, and he stood out in training to both coaches and staff. It seems however, that the Union have deemed Soumare as surplus to their needs.
Unfortunately for Soumare, team manager John Hackworth has other plans for the back line in the form of Jeff Parke and Amobi Okugo, leaving Soumare to warm the bench, which has left him scratching his head. It was highly speculated that he would be in the Starting XI come the Union’s season opener in place of Carlos Valdes, but that didn’t end up happening. Feeling like he wasn’t given a chance to prove himself by Hackworth, Baky requested the trade. He is expected, and wants, to move to another MLS side. (Thanks to the Philly Soccer Page for the heads up)
