As the NFL season kicks off with the Cowboys and Giants; it is the 101st meeting between the NFL clubs. Dallas leads 56–42–2 all time. The teams faced each other last season in a regular season finale with winner taking the NFC East, the Giants won 31-14. Giants went on to win the Super Bowl by knocking off the Pats.
The Cowboys–Giants rivalry started in 1960 with the first game ending to a 31-31 tie. In the past few years it has been one sided as the Giants have won 7 of the 9 past meetings, including a playoff game in 2008 when the Cowboys swept the Giants in the regular season.
That playoff meeting between the clubs was their only time they faced each other in the post-season. The Giants took the game 21-17, beating a 13-3 Dallas in their house. The Giants went in to win the Super Bowl.
Before the Cowboys came into the league the Giant ruled the Eastern Conference. But through the 1950s and early 1960s the Giants dropped off as a power-house, they did not make the playoffs from 1964–81. The Giants dominated the Cowboys in the first few years of the rivalry. The Cowboys flipped the play and controlled the mid 1960s to the early 1980s, winning 17 of the 20 meetings between the 2 teams in the 1970s.
In the 1980s the teams finished dead even splitting the 18 meeting. The 90s saw the Cowboys gain an edge during their Super Bowl years going 12-8 against the Giants. Since 2000 the Giants have gone 16-7 against Dallas.
