Philadelphia, PA- The Drexel Women’s soccer team won 1-0 in dramatic fashion over rivals Delaware on a cool fall like night at Vidas Field. The late game winner came with 2:16 left in regulation from Sam Greenfield as she scored off a corner kick. Drexel has made habit of scoring late game winners this season. The team finished the regular with a school record of 13 wins and will head into the CAA Tournament with a first round bye. Drexel will face the winner of the UNC Wilmington – Delaware match on Friday, Nov. 2.
The lone goal was set up by corner kick from Courtney Wylie. Wylie sent the ball into the box, and Alyssa Findlay then headed it to teammate Sam Greenfield, who blasted the ball past the Fightin’ Blue Hens keeper Jessica Levy. Greenfield finishes the regular season with five goals and four of them were game winners.
The Drexel Dragons back-line and keeper Eve Badana recorded 10 shutouts on the year, this was a huge reason Drexel finished with a record of 13-3-2 and 7-2-1 in Colonial Athletic Conference play. The Dragons finished second in the CAA to William & Mary, who will now host the CAA Championships in Williamsburg, VA. William & Mary will play the winner of Northeastern – Hofstra.
