From the Editor – Nightmares in October 201

admin Last updated on: February 17, 2024

Another month goes by in the wide world of sports, and what a month it was…or could have been.  It all comes down to what kind of sports fan you are.  If you’re a baseball fan, you probably watched the MLS Postseason, which at times was exciting and at other times, not so much.  For NFL fans, you’re about mid-season, probably wondering what every NFL fan constantly has on their minds, ‘will my team make the playoffs?’  Soccer fans it can go both ways for; if you’re an MLS fan, the season is coming to an end, and has already for us here in Philly.  If you’re more of a fan of soccer as a world sports, you’re in luck!  The Premiere League, La Liga and Series A are all in full swing!  As for hockey fans, we all know how that’s going.

Although the Phillies didn’t play October baseball, there still was a postseason.  The Yankees got embarrassed by Detroit, something we here in Philly can all snicker about.  Unfortunately, Detroit got shown the same treatment from the Giants, getting swept in the Fall Classic four games to none.  While I’m a Phillies fan, I was rooting for the Tigers to pick up another World Series trophy.  Oh well.  As a baseball fan, I can’t think of anything more boring than a four game sweep in the World Series.  It takes all the excitement out of one the more entertaining sports finales.

The way things are going with the Eagles, it will be yet another season without reaching the playoffs.  While Reid sticks with Vick, the situation has started to deteriorate quickly, and I think the only thing Bird fans can really hope for is the quick firing of Andy Reid at the end of the season.

On another football note, after much conspiracy and denials, the UFL did in fact fold.  Score one for the good guys.

For the Union, while a disappointing season has ended, there is a lot to look forward to in 2013.  The front office has already been hunting down a veteran striker, with rumors circulating that Sebastian Le Toux could make a return to Philadelphia.  Also, a little rumor to wet your whistle: Danny Califf.  As one of the Union’s biggest supporters, I personally had a blast at all the games this season.  Whether standing and singing with my brothers and sisters in the Sons of Ben in The River End, or in the nosebleeds at Toronto’s BMO Field, it was a one hell of a good time.

I’m not even going to write a pargraph about hockey.  Why?  Because the Winter Classic just got canceled, ending any hope that there will be an NHL season this year.  Bust out your copies of NHL people.

Finally, you’ve probably noticed some changes around the site.  I personally love how our site has evolved.  It’s crisp and clean, and everything is easily accessible.  Over the course of the next couple of weeks, we are going to be bringing on more writers and a few more editors to make sure you, our readers, continue to get the best quality news possible.  Of course, as a site run by fans, we’d love to hear what you guys think of the site.  Feel free to shoot us an email at [email protected] or tweet us @phillysportlive.

November isn’t the most exciting sports month by far, but at least there is turkey day football to look forward to.  Keep your sights set on PSL for the remainder of the MLS Cup Playoffs as well, with a wrap up of the knockout rounds coming your way later tonight.  Until December… Have you started your Christmas shopping?
