Eagles Beat Panthers for Chip Kelly 1st NFL Win

(Philadelphia) On Thursday August 15 from Lincoln Financial Field in south Philadelphia, the Eagles played their 2nd Preseason game against Cam Newton & Carolina Panthers. The Eagles are coming off a 31-22 loss to patriots while the Panthers are coming in off a 24-17 win over Chicago Bears. This game marked the 1st time that Chip Kelly would take on Cam Newton since the since 2011 BCS National Championship when Auburn beat Oregon. Nick Foles got the Start at QB, LeSean McCoy made his Preseason debut after not playing the week before due to knee injury. The game was broadcasted locally on 6ABC in Philly with Scott Graham, Brian Baldinger & Dave Spadaro calling the action.

The Panthers won the toss & elected to receive & Eagles would get ball to start 2nd half. The panthers would move ball down to eagles 40 before they punted the ball away down to 5 yard line. Nick Foles would drive ball down to Panthers 8 yard line before Foles forced pass into end zone which got picked off by Josh Thomas, on the Eagles 2nd drive of game, LeSean McCoy would break off a very nice 21 yard run, Eagles Radio Announcer Merrill Reese said ” Shady McCoy is making men leave articles of clothing all over the field”, then Nick Foles would run it in a 7 yard touchdown for a early 7-0 lead, The panthers would get on board early in 2nd quarter. Michael Vick comes into the game in 2nd quarter and his 1st drive would result in turnover when RB Chris Polk fumbles. Recovered by Panthers. on Vick 2nd drive, he would rush for 15 yard down to panthers 5 yard line & Merrill Reese said ” I wish Mike Vick would just Slide” 2 plays latter LeSean McCoy runs it in from 1 yard out for a 14-6 lead.

The Panthers would add another field goal in 2nd half to cut Eagles lead to 14-9. The Eagles defense looked good, Cary Williams made his eagles debut by throwing his weight around in particular against Panthers WR Steve Smith. When Dennis Dixon came into game and rush for 1st down, Merrill Reese would say ” I wish he would side & Mike Quick Told Reese “To GET OVER IT”. The Eagles would use all 5 quarterbacks for 2nd straight week in row. The Eagles hold on for a 14-9 Win & in the process give Chip Kelly his 1st NFL Win. Post Game chip Kelly was asked about naming a starting QB, he said the following: “You can put your pens down if you think we’re going to name QB in this room right now.”  The Eagles head to Jacksonville for 3rd Preseason game on Saturday August 24 at 7:30 PM.
