Extra Innings Victory Propels Phillies to 5

Domonic Brown didn’t rocket one up to the light towers.  He simply hit the ball where it was pitched.  Its a beautiful thing.  Taking the ball the other way makes something inside a baseball fan swoon.

A miscue by Dodger SS Hanley Ramirez and OF Carl Crawford transformed a can of corn, Carlos Ruiz pop-fly into a rally starter.

Dom Brown did the rest, roping an outside offering into the left field gap, scoring Ruiz who was already at second after the error.

Brown’s run added to the two the Phillies scored on an rbi double by Marlon Byrd, who was in the three hole tonight, and a sac fly by Ryan Howard.

Papelbon closed the door for his 6th save in 7 chances, and the Phillies take the win in 10 innings.

Behind a solid outing from AJ Burnett (who was also 3-3 at the plate), the Phillies held the Dodgers to two runs.  Burnett continued his steady season on the bump.  Coming of his best outing of the season (7 shut out innings) tonight he surrendered two over 6.2 innings before letting way to the pen.  Diekman finished out the 7th with no noise.  Mike Adams and Antonio Bastardo each pitched scoreless innings, and Bastardo ended up with the win moving to 3-1 this season.

After stealing a game early last week, and losing the other 4 in miserable fashion, the Phillies turned things around their final game in Colorado to the tune of 15 hits and 10 runs.  They have now won three straight and move to 500 for the first time since the opening week of the season.  With a win either Wednesday or Thursday night, the Phillies will take the series against the Dodgers, and move into their next series against the lowly Diamondbacks with a serious shot at coming back to Philly with a winning record.

Ben Revere played stellar tonight.  Another highlight catch in the outfield, and 4-5 at the dish, made it impossible not to mention our young center fielder. He is making an early bid at the gold glove, and if he keeps this up, he’ll be a shoe-in.

Don’t look now Philadelphia, but your baseball team is making some noise out west.
